Calculation Disclaimer
Last updated: March 22, 2026
All calculations, estimates, and data provided through the Prospect platform are for informational purposes only and do not constitute legal, financial, or customs advice. You must independently verify all information with the relevant official authorities before making trade decisions.
1. Data Sources and Limitations
Prospect aggregates data from multiple publicly available sources, including official tariff schedules, trade agreement texts, and regulatory databases. While we strive for accuracy, these sources have inherent limitations:
- Data may not be updated in real time and could reflect information from prior periods
- Transcription or interpretation differences may exist between our database and the original official sources
- Coverage may not extend to all HS code subdivisions or all country-specific regulations
2. Tariff Rates
Tariff rates displayed in the Service may not reflect the latest changes published by customs authorities. Rates can change due to:
- Legislative or regulatory amendments
- Trade agreement renegotiations or updates
- Temporary safeguard measures
- Seasonal tariff adjustments
- Reclassification of goods under the Harmonized System
Always verify current rates with official sources such as TARIC (EU), Siscomex (Brazil), or the relevant national customs authority.
3. Exchange Rates
Exchange rates used in calculations are cached and may reflect values up to 4 hours old. Currency markets are volatile, and the actual exchange rate at the time of your transaction may differ significantly from the rate used in the simulation. For high-value transactions, consult your financial institution for current rates.
4. Shipping Cost Estimates
Shipping costs displayed are estimates based on baseline rates for the selected transport mode and route. These estimates do not account for:
- Carrier-specific pricing and surcharges
- Fuel surcharges and seasonal rate adjustments
- Port congestion fees or delays
- Special handling requirements for specific cargo types
- Warehousing or demurrage charges
- Insurance premium variations
Contact your freight forwarder or carrier for accurate shipping quotes.
5. Not a Substitute for Professional Advice
The Service is not a substitute for professional customs broker advice, legal counsel, or licensed trade advisory services. Complex trade operations, especially those involving:
- High-value shipments
- Controlled or restricted goods
- Novel classification questions
- Multiple trade agreement overlaps
...should always involve consultation with qualified professionals.
6. Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Duties
Anti-dumping and countervailing duties are subject to periodic review and may change without advance notice. The Service may not reflect the most current measures in effect. These duties can vary by:
- Specific exporter or manufacturer
- Country of origin
- Review period
- Product specification within an HS code
Always consult official anti-dumping and countervailing duty registers for current measures.
7. FTA Preferential Rates and Rules of Origin
Preferential tariff rates shown under the Mercosur-EU agreement or other free trade agreements are subject to rules of origin compliance. To benefit from preferential rates, goods must:
- Meet the specific rules of origin criteria for the applicable HS code
- Be accompanied by valid proof of origin documentation
- Comply with direct consignment/transport requirements
The Service does not verify whether your specific goods qualify for preferential treatment. Consult a qualified trade professional or customs authority to confirm eligibility.
8. User Responsibility
It is the user's sole responsibility to verify all calculations, rates, and information provided by the Service with official sources before making trade decisions. Key official sources include:
- TARIC — EU integrated tariff database
- Siscomex — Brazilian integrated foreign trade system
- National customs authorities — of the relevant Mercosur member states (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay)
- WCO — World Customs Organization for HS classification guidance
